S. Africa's carbon and alloy steel imports up 35 percent in 2015

South Africa's primary carbon and alloy steel product imports (excluding semi-finished steel, stainless steel and drawn wire) amounted to 124,378 mt in December last year, rising by 40.6 percent compared to November and up 18.2 percent from December 2014, according to the customs and excise data released by the South African Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI).
 
The country's primary carbon and alloy steel product imports during 2015 amounted to 1,399,087 mt, increasing by 35 percent from 1,036,414 mt in 2014. 
 
Of South Africa's total primary carbon and alloy steel product imports in 2015, 1,112,200 mt consisted of flat steel products, up 33.7 percent year on year.
