The plate mill in question has an annual capacity of 2 million mt per year and targets an output of 15,000 mt next month, followed by a gradual increase in production. The plant is capable of rolling in a large width range and producing steel grades like structural, boiler quality, shipbuilding and pipeline plates up to X‐80 grade.

According to JSPL's statement, the plate mill is a part of its integrated steel complex and is being set up along with the 1.6 million mt per year expected to be commissioned towards the end of the financial year 2012-13.
