China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced that as of the end of 2015 the production capacity of the 37 major automobile enterprises in China amounted to 31.22 million units, while the automobile production capacity under construction was in excess of six million units. As of the end of 2015, passenger vehicle capacity in China amounted to 25.75 million units, while commercial vehicle capacity totaled 5.47 million units.

In 2015, the utilization rate of passenger vehicle production capacity in 37 major Chinese automobile enterprises stood at 81 percent, while the utilization rate of commercial vehicle production capacity in these enterprises was only at 52 percent, reflecting excess capacity and insufficient capacity utilization in the domestic auto industry. Meanwhile, in the January-April period of the current year China’s new energy vehicle output amounted to 94,442 units, up 126.8 percent year on year.
