TUIK: Turkey's steel import value down 29.1 percent in January-May

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in May this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports decreased by 31.1 percent year on year, totaling $1.35 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in third place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In the first five months, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $6.18 billion, decreasing by 29.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In May, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 18th among the products with the highest import value, amounted to $228.8 million in value, falling by 0.7 percent year on year. In the first five months of the current year, the value of Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel was down 19.8 percent year on year to $996 million.
